There are many different types of chiropractic treatment but McTimoney chiropractic is known for its gentle but effective technique. It involves high velocity and low amplitude adjustments - fast and light. The treatment is focused on the whole body, not just the problem area. If one area is not functioning, it effects the rest the of the body - like it does when you get a flat tyre on a car, it becomes undrivable. Chiropractors aim to ensure that the nervous system is functioning at its best by removing misalignments in the body and correcting postural imbalances. A misalignment is when a joint is not functioning in the correct way it should. By removing this misalignment we allow for the pathways between the brain and the nervous system to become clearer. This enables your body to function at its optimal level and allows the body to heal itself; known as innate healing.
As a chiropractor, I not only focus on the spine and pelvis but I also incorporate dry needling into my treatment plans as a complementary therapy. This approach allows me to target specific muscle tension and promote healing by increasing blood flow to the affected area. While not every patient may be comfortable with needles, I respect each individual's boundaries and preferences, and I always discuss the option with them before proceeding. If you're interested in learning more about dry needling and how it can benefit your specific needs, I'd be happy to provide more information.
Your chiropractic treatment will also involve soft tissue release, which is designed to enhance the healing process and promote relaxation. By relaxing the muscles and promoting healthy circulation, soft tissue release can help to alleviate pain and discomfort, and support overall recovery and wellness.
This is the first initial stage of your plan of care. We focus on the symptoms to enable you to move pain free. Your sessions are more frequent at this stage to get you out of pain as quickly as possible.
This is a very important stage, as we now start to address the underlying cause to help minimise the risk of the pain coming back. Your chiropractor will start to give you strengthening exercises depending on your individual needs and the sessions become less frequent.
Hooray! This is the optimum goal. People that have reached this stage are living there best and healthy life. Your body is functioning well and you are able to manage the pain. Most people choose to come in at a longer frequency to help maintain this.
